Tanks 'n' Titz Tour
Wallonia Belgium - 3 Days

Panther tank

Do you like tanks?  Yeah!

Do you like Titz?  Hell yeah!

Then read on!

The Wallonia region of Belgium saw some of the heaviest fighting during World War 2 and the Battle of the Bulge.

Also known as the Ardennes Offensive, it was the last major offensive on the Western Front during World War II, resulting in the Allies (and more the United States) suffering its deadliest single loss during the war.

The remnants are dozens of WW2 relics lying scattered in towns and villages, which after liberation were sometimes stuck on a plinth as a reminder of the horrors of war.

This is a 3 day tour, usually booked on a weekend.

We will ride into the heart of the Ardennes, mainly in Belgium and clipping into Luxembourg, before riding back through the front lines to Blighty.

With many tanks and war relics to be found, this is a good taster to European touring and you'll want to come back and revisit some of these landmarks again.

Sample Belgian hospitality, famous for their rich beers and fancy chocolates.

You'll be riding your own motorbike through history, hunting down tanks and howitzers and Titz.

Ah yes, the Titz?  Clear out your dirty minds, there's a rather plain but picturesque town of Titz on route.  Good for the sign post but that's about it.  Sorry to disappoint.

If you want to make your own tracks to our nightly accommodation, you’re more than welcome, otherwise we will guide you all the way with an English speaking biker leading.

It is 100% tarmac with no planned off roading.

Vive la libération!

Day 1

Folkstone to La Roche-en-Ardenne

– 250 miles.

Your tour will start early in the morning at a location close to the Folkstone Channel Tunnel, where after filling up we will board Le Shuttle as a group. If you haven’t been on the Euro Tunnel on a bike, it can be a little daunting but your guide will take you through the process and it’s a case of follow the person in front. The crossing is only around 35 minutes. Once in France we will take a boring but practical motorway run through to Belgium with a couple of photo stops at various remains of WW2, including a brief stop at the Mons Memorial Museum. We then come into the southern part of Belgium and the Ardennes, where we begin our offensive, hunting down tanks and military relics. Our hotel for the night is near La Roche-en-Ardenne. A pretty town alongside the river.

Day 2
La Roche-en-Ardenne to Leige
– 200 miles.

After a good continental breakfast, we will hit the road towards the Eifel National Park, hunting down more tanks and passing through the plain town of Titz (just for a photo of the sign). This will probably include a Panther Tank and maybe a Sherman, as well as other artillery pieces that were abandoned over 80 years ago. Belgian roads are a bit Marmite. Some are perfectly smooth and some are as bumpy as cobbled street. Our next stop will be Spa-Francorchamps. This Formula 1 track for the Belgian GP, will probably have someone on the tarmac, but we might be able to sneak a peak through the gates. We will be staying near to the city of Leige this evening, known as La Cite de la Biere with dozens of craft breweries.

King Tiger 2 Tank
Day 3
Liege to Folkstone
– 250 miles.

After breakfast we will continue our tank hunt. We will definitely stop by the German King Tiger II tank. This thing is a beast and on some weekends a military memorabilia market is on beside it. For the history buffs, you can see why the Sherman tank was such a diverse vehicle in WW2, as there are several variants to be found on our trip. But now we need to retreat back to the white cliffs, back in time for tea!
